Policies

Welcome!

I'm glad you're here! Please note that as the customer it is your responsibility to inform yourself of my shop policies and procedures. If there is a question that is not answered below, please email me at flatlanderjewelry@gmail.com
By completing a purchase from Flatlander Jewelry, you are indicating that you agree to these policies. My shop policies are non-negotiable, and are in place to protect you as the customer to ensure that my business is sustainable.

Making a Purchase

Each piece I create is handmade with thought, intention, and care. Due to the singular nature of each piece, at this time I cannot accommodate custom orders. However, if there is something you would like to see more of please email me at flatlanderjewelry@gmail.com and I will do my best to add it to a future collection!
Collections are designed, fabricated, and listed by me and will be announced via Instagram and my newsletter. Out of a sense of fairness for all my customers I will not reserve or hold pieces.
I accept payment through PayPal, ShopPay, Afterpay, and most major credit cards.

Pre-Orders

Many of my collections will feature pre-order options. Production time for pre-orders is 4-8 weeks. Payment is due in full when you place the order. You will receive an email when I begin working on the order, and another when I prepare it for shipment.
If the jewelry you order has a set size, it is your responsibility to know your correct size. Due to the handmade nature of my work they are unable to be resized once finished.

Sizing

Ring sizes, chain lengths, and other measurements is posted in the listing information for each piece. Once a piece is finished it cannot be resized or adjusted.
If you do not know your size, I recommend using a sizer like this one. You can also visit your local jeweler and ask for them to size you - most jewelry stores will have a sizer available, especially if they are in the engagement and wedding ring market.
Please note that rings with wide bands will fit more snug than a more slender band of the same size. If a ring is wide enough to change the fit I will note it in the product listing. Rings are measured on a mandrel using American sizes. If you are considering a ring with a wide band I recommend sizing up by 1/4 to 1/2 size, depending on how fleshy the lower part of your finger is and how much they tend to swell.

Shipping

I aim to ship each order within 5-7 business days. Every effort will be made to get your purchase to you as quickly as possible. However, please remember that Flatlander is a one woman show and that sometimes delays can happen. I will contact you in the event that you order will be shipped out later than 7 business days after your order. If you require a piece within a specific time frame, please send an email to flatlanderjewelry@gmail.com after placing your order and I will do my best to accommodate your request.
All orders are shipped via USPS. You have the choice between Economy and Standard shipping. Economy orders are shipped USPS First Class and are not insured. Standard orders are shipped USPS Priority Mail and are insured up to $100. If you are ordering internationally, I ship via Priority Mail. Domestic orders should arrive within 1-5 business days, international orders can take between 1-6 weeks depending on location.
Once a package is dropped off at the post office it is out of my hands. Please make sure that you are checking your tracking info and that your mail is received in a secure location. If an order is lost in the mail I will work with you to try to recover the package as best I can.
I am not liable for any packages lost in the mail or taken from doorsteps. If you would like shipping insurance please choose Standard shipping, and if you would like to insure your order above the $100 automatically provided with Standard shipping please contact me and I will send you an invoice.
International orders may include customs duties. I will include a customs form with all international orders that accurately represents the contents and value of each order. I do not have any influence over customs or import costs, and hold no responsibility for these fees.
Please remember that shipping delays have been an issue lately, and that the USPS is working hard to maintain their level of service. Shipping times may be longer during peak seasons such as the winter holidays.

Returns

Returns will not be accepted for sizing issues. Please read all sizing information, including disclaimers regarding the fit of a piece in relation to body size and composition. I do not accept returns or exchanges for buyer's remorse. If you are unsure if a piece is right for you and would like more pictures or a more detailed description, please email me before making your purchase and I will be happy to accommodate you.
If there is an error on my part, please reach out to me at flatlanderjewelry@gmail.com and I will work to resolve the issue to the best of my ability.
Order cancellations will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and must be submitted via email to flatlanderjewelry@gmail.com within 24 hours of submitting the purchase. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to honor a cancellation request, but will do what I can.
Return requests must be made within three calendar days of your purchase delivery date, and must be shipped within seven days of your purchase delivery date. Note that the delivery date is the day on which USPS states that it has arrived, not the date the package is opened. You are responsible for return shipping costs. Returns must arrive to me in their original packaging with all items included and in their original condition. You will receive your refund once I have your return and have verified that the order is intact.

Repairs and Care

With proper care your jewelry should last a lifetime and beyond. I work hard to ensure that each piece I make is heirloom quality. I design each piece with the intention that you will enjoy it for years and someday pass it on to another.
Due the materials I use and the handmade nature of my work, each piece must be treated with care. I use high quality materials and test all stress points of my jewelry before shipping. Repairs for breaks or marks due to rough treatment or accidents will be assessed on an individual basis. If a repair is beyond my current ability and comfort level I will assist you in finding a jeweler who can conduct the repair properly.
Please do not wear your jewelry while swimming, washing, applying lotions and oils, showering, or any other activity that exposes your jewelry to long-term contact with liquids. Some chemicals found in cosmetics and fragrances can harm stones or silver. The jewelry I make is not made for rough activity, and will not withstand the strain of athletic activities.
Tarnish is a natural process and is unavoidable. To clean your jewelry, buff gently with a clean and dry microfiber cloth. Do not dig in and rub away the patina (the darkened areas) that was applied when I made the piece. This is applied intentionally, and once removed it cannot be reapplied without refinishing the entire piece. Please note that all patinas fade eventually. All pieces are coated with archival quality microcrystalline wax polish to make the finish of your piece last as long as possible.
Do not leave your jewelry out in direct sunlight. If you are going to put your jewelry away for an extended period of time, place it in a shaded area or a drawer lined with anti-tarnish material.
Some stones are more susceptible to damage than others. Please note which stone your piece includes. Do not use commercial jewelry cleaners, as they may damage softer stones and ruin the intentional patina placed on the silver.
